Half-Life 2 can now be played with VR glasses, thanks to a mod

For two decades, the Half-Life series has been a favorite for gamers around the globe, but Valve has never set out to develop a third installment, leaving Gordon Freeman's story unfinished after the second game, although in the year 2020 launched Half-Life: Alyx, a title designed to be played with virtual reality glasses. If you like exploring the Half-Life universe in virtual reality, we have good news for you.

A new Half-Life 2 mod created by developer Source VR Mod Team is now available for free on the Steam Workshop. The main defining feature of this mod is that it transports the game from the PC screen to virtual reality glasses.

Although the project is currently in open beta, it allows you to enjoy the entire Half-Life 2 campaign in virtual reality. It is evident that the Source VR Mod Team has used several elements from Half-Life: Alyx to modernize Half-Life 2. For example, weaponry can be swapped in the same way as in the 2020 game.

A new optional laser sight, over-the-shoulder ammo carry, manual reloading, and dual-wielding weapons are other changes implemented in the VR version of the game. The mod even offers room scale movement. The development team, however, states that the game is not yet complete, but that this does not prevent players from enjoying it. In addition, the project has received quite positive comments.

Similarly to Black Mesa, Half-Life 2: VR Mod has been anticipated by the gaming community for years. The project was quietly developed until 2021 after its announcement in 2017.

In order to download the mod, you must first have purchased the original Half-Life 2 game on Steam and installed it.
