Exoskeleton from Death Stranding game inspires delivery service in China

Death Stranding, released in November last year and achieving a good volume of sales and positive reviews, presented a world in which people cannot leave the house risking their lives. The player lives in the shoes of Sam Bridges, a delivery man who risks his health to carry packages across this world. Today more than ever, this scenario sounds familiar, right?

In addition to this dystopian world, developer Hideo Kojima may also have envisioned a technology: the use of the exoskeleton to expand Sam's delivery capabilities.

Based on this idea, the Chinese food delivery company Ele.me began testing a tool that helps to know how many packages a person can carry on their back. The company has partnered with ULS Robotics to develop technology that would imitate that of Death Stranding.

In the video shared by the website of Sixth Tone on Twitter, it is possible to see a person carrying 50 kg of packaged products on their back without, apparently, requiring much effort on their part.

The system has a leg and arm support that acts as a base to hold the boxes. In this way, the delivery person has freer movements to climb the stairs, maintain balance and not fall.

Technical characteristics of the exoskeleton

The exoskeleton of ULS Robotics, weighs approximately 7 kg and can carry up to 50 kg of load. battery lasts about 6 hours, which allows couriers to use it for a good part of the day they work. The problem, apart from being in testing, is its high cost, something that will surely make its use probably a minority for the moment.

The mechanism drew attention to how close it is to the model created by Kojima in Death Stranding. Despite the tests, the Chinese company has not yet said when it will actually use the technology for deliveries, however it is very striking. Can you imagine someone with an exoskeleton delivering the Chinese food you ordered at your favorite restaurant? Well, this could be possible in the near future. We'll be like robocop, half intelligent robotshalf human?
