Whether from the 90s or today, there were consoles that marked a “boom” in the gaming market. video games. Next, we will mention what in our humble opinion are the best consoles in history.

PSP

La PlayStation Portable -PSP- was one of the most popular portable consoles.

It was released on December 12, 2004 in Japan and a year later, it arrived in the United States, specifically on March 24, 2005.

At that time, Sony surprised the gaming world, with this console being the main competition for the Nintendo DS, Nintendo's portable console in those years.

Like other Sony consoles, the PSP can be used as an audio and video multimedia player, and has wireless Internet access via WiFi.

As for its graphics, they were quite innovative for the time, similar to those of the PS2. This thanks to its 4.3-inch widescreen screen and high-definition resolution.

SEGA Genesis or Mega Drive

One of the most successful consoles of the 90s.

Mega Drive was part of the childhood of millions of people around the world, being the best-selling of its time. In fact, it was the only competition for Super Nintendo.

Thanks to this console, it was possible to enjoy classics such as Road Rash, Sonic and Gunstar Heroes.

However, few know that Mega Drive has released several models since its launch in 1988. Among them:

  • Sega Teradrive, a computer with input for Mega Drive cartridges. Released in 1991.
  • Mega PC, an improved hybrid, product of the combination of PC and the Mega Drive. It was launched in 1993.
  • Mega Drive 2, a renewed version of the console. It would allow gamers to enjoy a more compact console, improved audio, and a new six-button controller.
  • Sega Mega Jet, the first attempt to create a portable Mega Drive, did not have a screen, but was connected to the LCD that was in the seat of the airplanes, allowing passengers to enjoy a gaming session while they were on board. of a plane.
  • Sega Nomad was released in 1995 only in the United States with the aim of replacing the SEGA Game Gear. This model of portable console had a wide range of games and advanced graphics for the time. It was created to compete with the Nintendo Game Boy.

PlayStation 2.

To date it is one of the most popular consoles, exceeding 160 million sales.

Sony's second video game console, launched on March 4, 2000, is the console with the most video game titles, with approximately 3.870 video games.

The Play Station 2 was a total success, acclaimed by the entire public, which made it last a long time on the market. In this way, it became the console with the longest and longest duration on the market.

This until January 3, 2013, when it was decided after 13 years to stop manufacturing. However, despite this, many industries continued to produce games for the console during 2013, including Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 and FIFA 14.

Nintendo 64

It was not one of the best-known consoles, but without a doubt its catalog of games was amazing.

It was the fourth console released by Nintendo with a 64-bit processor to succeed the Super Nintendo.

This console was the competition for the PlayStation and Sega's Saturn. However, the fact that the game storage format was the cartridge was a disadvantage.

It had an analog stick and controls with buttons arranged in a cross to make it easier for the player to control those games that will have three-dimensional environments. An example of this was Super Mario 64.

It was a console with a large catalog of iconic games, including Mario Party and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater

The Nintendo GameCube

It was overshadowed by the Playstation 2 and its large number of sales, so it was not very popular at its time. However, it had a completely different and innovative style.

It was Nintendo's fifth home console, it featured IBM's 485 MHz PowerPC Gekko processor.

As many will know, its name is due to its shape similar to a cube and it was the first Nintendo console that did not have a Mario video game at the time of its launch.

It is on this console where Nintendo decided to adopt a new storage format for games, called Nintendo Optical Disc.

Nintendo Wii

It was launched in 2006, being Nintendo's fifth console. It caused a sensation in its time thanks to its remote control, a wireless control that could detect movement.

In addition, it allowed players to receive updates over the internet that were downloaded and installed automatically even if the console was turned off (but powered by a power cable), thanks to WiiConnect24.

The Wii was characterized by having numerous successful and dynamic games such as: Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

And of course, we cannot ignore the Nintendo Wii's own games that made the most of its motion detection features, such as Wii Sports.

PlayStation 4 Pro

The legendary PS4 is one of the current consoles, launched in 2013.

It has three main versions:

  • Fat, named this way because of its weight and 500 GB of storage, is the original version of the console.
  • Slim, it was much lighter than the previous one and can be found with 600 GB or 1TB of storage
  • Pro is the most recent and modern version, launched in 2016. It is characterized by supporting 4K resolution and having 1TB of storage.

The PS4 pro has a Blu-ray player, a built-in motion sensor and the innovative DualShock 4 controller, which has a touch screen and a button to share images and videos of the games played by console users on the Internet.

Most games originally developed for the PS4 Fat and Slim feature better graphics on the PS4 Pro that take advantage of the console's extra power. Among them we can mention: Minecraft, Far Cry 5, FIFA, God of War, Injustice 2, The Last of Us, Call Of Duty: Ghost, Uncharted, among others.
