How to listen to music on YouTube with the screen off

Years and years It's been since I first wanted Google to add the ability to listen to YouTube videos without the need to have the mobile screen on. Why do I have to waste battery on the screen if I'm not going to watch the video?

YouTube may be the leading video platform, but a large part of its content is music -even though they are music videos. Once you have seen a video clip you no longer have the need to watch it again when you listen to the song, unless it is a video that really touches you deeply.

Can you now listen to music on YouTube with your phone locked? No and yes. The title does not fool anyone. Let's see that, indeed, you can listen to music on the platform by locking your mobile. So why do I say it can't be done? You can achieve this but it is not something that can be done from the official application.

What you always wanted: listen to music on YouTube with the locked screen

It's not really a new trick. Instead of using the YouTube app, to be able to enjoy this quality we will have to access the service through our browser. For quite some time now it can be done from Mozilla Firefox, but now we can do it from practically any mobile web browser.

The steps are really simple and have no loss. We are going to start by unlocking the mobile and we will begin to follow these simple steps:

1. Open YouTube in your web browser

Access the YouTube website or copy the address of the video you want to watch and put it in the address bar of your web browser.

Switch to the desktop version of a website

2. Switch to the desktop version

If you see the address bar you may see 'm.youtube.com'. This means that you have accessed the mobile version of the website. You will have to switch to the desktop version for this to work. In order to switch to the desktop version, all you have to do is pull down the browser menu –yes, the three dots or three bars in the upper right corner of the screen- Y Check the “View as computer” box.

3. Play the video

It may sound obvious but don't forget to play the video or playlist you want to listen to. It is essential if you want to enjoy the content.

4. Exit YouTube and display the notification bar

Now you will have to exit YouTube. But don't close the tab or the web browser. Simply press the start button to leave the program in the background. If you display the notification bar you will find a notification of the video you were watching. Press the play button to continue playing the music.

While your favorite song or playlist is playing, you can lock the screen of your smartphone. Voila! Your phone is locked and the music is still playing. That's how simple it is to power listen to YouTube music on your mobile with the screen locked.

The process will be the same in all browsers, although some may not show you the option to view the web version of the site instead of the mobile version. While other browsers may have this option with a different name. This must be taken into account when following the process.
