What is the DNI-Car of the DGT
The DNI-Car is basically a service that is aimed at vehicle rental companies, which will have the possibility of digitizing the documentation of all the vehicles they own.
What is the main objective of the DNI-Car
The main objective of digitizing this documentation is to avoid rental vehicle theft, so that companies will be covered in this opposite sense that the lessee will not carry the original documentation in paper format.
Until now, it was necessary to carry this documentation or a certified copy, which made it much easier for these people to travel abroad where they could re-register the vehicle, or even resell it easily, since by having the circulation permit as well as the technical sheet, there would be no impediments to carrying out these procedures.
From now on, this number of thefts, which amounted to up to 12.000 vehicles annually in Spain, will be drastically reduced thanks to the added difficulty of the DNI-Car.
how this system works
In total, two documents will be digitized: the circulation permit and the ITV file, these having the same validity as in the case of printed documentation.
Digitization can only be carried out through the FENEVAL association with the aim of avoiding counterfeiting, and once the process has been carried out, each vehicle will have a QR code that will be renewed for each rental, so that the company will print the code and will be delivered to the landlord along with the rental contract.
When the vehicle documentation is requested by the authorities, the lessor will only have to show the documentation by scanning the QR code with his mobile device.
It is important to keep in mind that this system will work for Spain, France and Portugal, although at the moment it will not be extended to other countries.
In addition, all digitization procedures will be carried out through the company FENEVAL, all the information will be stored on the same platform to guarantee that it will not be manipulated or falsified.
Who will be obliged to use the DNI-Car
It is very important to keep in mind that there is no obligation when registering the documentation of rental vehicles through the DNI-Car system, being in any case voluntary for vehicle rental companies.
It should be noted that private owners will not have the possibility of carrying out this procedure, although it is undoubtedly a very interesting solution that can be useful in the future to improve security and avoid the growing number of vehicle thefts that we suffer in the country.
