Steps to calculate the frigories of an air conditioner

In order to calculate the frigories that we are going to need our new air conditioner, we are going to carry out a very simple calculation.

In this sense, the only thing we will need is to know the cubic meters of the room that we want to air condition. If we do not know how to perform this calculation, the only thing we will have to do is multiply the length of said room by the width and then we will multiply by the height. The resulting amount will indicate the cubic meters to air condition.

In the event that it is more than one room that we want to cool with the same device, the only thing we will have to do is carry out this same calculation but adding all the rooms, with which we will have the total volume of space to be air conditioned.

How many frigories are needed per cubic meter?

Once we know the cubic meters of the room, what we have to do is multiply the result by 50, since approximately they will be necessary. 50 frigories for each cubic meter to be refrigerated.

Case study

But in case you have gotten a little confused, here is an example. Let's imagine for example that we want air condition two rooms with the same device, and the first room that we will call A has a length of 5 m, a width of 7 m and a height of 3 m. The second room, which we will call B, has a length of 4 m, a width of 5 m and a height of 3 m.

The first thing we are going to do is calculate the volume of each of the rooms:

A = 5 x 7 x 3 = 105 m3

B = 4 x 5 x 3 = 60 m3

A + B = 165 m3

That is, we will need an air conditioning unit with power to air condition 165 m³. Now, what we are going to calculate are the frigories that we are going to need. To do this we will carry out the following calculation:

165 x 50 = 8250 frigories

Now we know the minimum frigories that our device must have to work comfortably and achieve a good result.

Considerations

Of course, we will always try to purchase an air conditioner that has a little more power. For example, in this case we could opt for 10.000 frigories, thus avoiding overexertion and achieving a homogeneity better.

It must also be considered that depending on the place where we are, the requirement of 50 frigories per cubic meter may vary, increasing in the case of colder places and decreasing in warmer places.
